DAVID GOULD

David Gould was born in London in 1947 and studied painting at the Gloucestershire and Royal Colleges of Art, where he gained an M. Art (RCA) in 1972. After one year as an Abbey Major Scholar at the British School in Rome in 1972-73, he went on to teach at the Byam Shaw, Cardiff and other Schools of Art, and was Director of the Foundation Course in Art and Design there from 1992 to 2008. He is now retired, lives in Cardiff,  is a member of the Bute Street Artists Studio Group in Cardiff and has a studio  in the Bay Art studio/gallery  building there.

He is a full time practising painter and has exhibited work regularly, in both group and solo exhibitions in Wales, London, and elsewhere. He has twice won prizes for his work at the “Discerning Eye” Exhibition in London.

His work includes painting directly from landscape and still life subjects in oil, watercolour and acrylic, and more experimental abstract and representational pieces in low relief, which cast and combine forms from a range of natural and man made things and historical sources.
