The Story of the Ancient Lovers 1997-1999

This series of oil paintings was executed between 1997–99 and exhibited at The Belgrave Gallery, London. These invented couples are depicted either lying on a bed, in a bare room, or on the earth. I placed much emphasis on each painting's title too, according each couple a status or profession, a location and a specific place in history. In this way I wanted to emphasise the relationship between the forces of history – created by history's names – and the imperative for everyday relationships to somehow navigate through them.
