Moses Betrayed 2
Small Moses
Bronze, 82 high x 28 x 28 cm, 2004
32 high x 11 x 11 inches
Description of Sculpture:
“MOSES BETRAYED 2”
is an exact reduction of “MOSES BETRAYED 1”, except Richard has brought
the second smaller Bronze sculpture 20 seconds forward in time. The Commandment
Tablet, which was leaving MOSES lowered right hand and was in mid-air in the
original sculpture, has now left his hand and has crashed to the ground,
cracking in half on impact. This gives the sculpture depth and the perspective
of action and movement. MOSES lower hand is now closer to him, completing its
swing. Although his body is in exactly the same position, the wind has blown and
his robes catch the air, displaying some more anatomy. In Gallery purchases,
this is the first choice of sculpture by the Christian Missionaries who tour
Israel.
Artist's Interpretation:
“I modelled “MOSES BETRAYED 2” in wax in order to preserve the
fine details which clay or plasticina would not allow.
It began as a commission request for a smaller
model of my larger “MOSES BETRAYED 1”, but I have adjusted it to also serve as a
companion piece to “MOSES BETRAYED 1” because of the forward flow of time. I
have the two side by side in my home in Israel and the pair fit well together.”
