"And God Said: 'Let There Be
Light'"
Bronze, 54 high x 21 x 21 cm, 2000
21.5 high x 8 x 8 inches
Biblical Scripture:
“And God said, ‘Let there be light', and there was light. God saw
that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God
called the light day, and the darkness he called ‘night. “
GENESIS 3 – 5
Description of Sculpture:
A favourite Gallery sculpture. Simple. Direct. Compelling. Excellent detail.
Artist's Interpretation:
“I was influenced by Michelangelo's magnificent Sistine Chapel
interpretation. The palm of God's hand faces the viewer, his strong fingers
spread like a fan. I can envision rays of light bursting from each finger and
streaming into the firmament. God's hands reflect age and strength, with tendons
and veins bursting with power. Fortunately, because of my age and the degree of
my physical fitness, I was able to use my own hand as a model.”
