http://www.tatler.com/bystander/events/2013/september/sothebys-beyond-limits-exhibition-at-chatsworth#/11698/image/9 Chatsworth has multiple feathers to its cap. A 126-room house. Around 35,000 acres of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. A Mitford. A Duke and Duchess. Possibly the country's very grandest farm shop. But from Monday, you lucky devils, there's even more. Because for the eighth year running, Sotheby's Beyond Limits exhibition is returning to the rolling Chatsworth grounds. Opening on Monday, this year's sculpture display boasts 20 pieces from 18 artists with a particularly international bent. "We've spent the last year travelling the globe to source the most exciting sculptures by the best international artists - from Russia, South America, Mexico, Italy, France,' says Alex Platon, Sotheby's Head of Private Sales, Europe. "The market for outdoor sculpture is becoming increasingly global, with buyers from Asia, Russia and the Middle East now collecting. This show gives them the extraordinary opportunity to see these important large-scale works displayed in a natural setting." There's a wonderfully Rubenesque bronze called Standing Woman by the Colombian artist Fernando Botero; an extraordinary stone and metal 'igloo' fashioned by the Italian artist Mario Merz, and a Matisse-inspired aluminum fan - called simply Ivy - by the Spanish artist Manolo Valdés. There is homegrown talent, too, including three bronzes by Tony Cragg, one of Britain's most respected sculptors, and a pavilion created by Thomas Heatherwick, the British designer who created London 2012's Olympic cauldron. Children will be tickled by the sculpture called Alien by David Breuer-Weil. It's a bronze torso and pair of legs, upended on one of the Chatsworth lawns as if it's just crash-landed from space and its head and arms have sunk beneath the turf. And should you feel in need of a little sit down after all that excitement, you can collapse for lunch at that very fine farm shop. The sausages, in particular, are excellent. Beyond Limits is at Chatsworth from Monday until October 27th. For more information visit www.sothebys.com or www.chatsworth.org.
http://www.blouinartinfo.com/video/sothebys-beyond-limits-sothebys-at-chatsworth-a-selling-exhibition The Beyond Limits exhibition of monumental sculpture has firmly established itself on the arts calendar and is one of the most prestigious platforms for displaying modern and contemporary outdoor sculpture. Past exhibitions have showcased an exciting array of sculpture by both classic Modern names and more cutting-edge Contemporary artists. The annual selling exhibition of monumental sculpture is hosted within the magnificent gardens at Chatsworth, the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The exhibition runs through September and October, and coincides with the Frieze Art Fair. The show is now in its fifth consecutive year and the forthcoming installation promises another great show. All sculptures included in the exhibition are available for purchase by private arrangement.
